World view: a war veteran returns to Normandy – and goes fishing

Water whips off the end of Frank Moore’s fishing line as he casts from the edge of the Le Gueil river in northern France. Moore, a 90-year-old American second world war veteran and fly-fishing legend, returned to Normandy to fish in the rivers he first saw as a 20-year-old solider in 1944, one of the 156,000 allied troops who landed on the beaches of Normandy on D-Day. The story of his return 70 years later is followed in the film Mending the Line, which will be screened during the UK tour of the Banff Mountain Film Festival, which runs until 6 June
