Working with animals, children and communities as a volunteer with Mission Rabies education and vaccination teams, brings you into the heart of a unique international humanitarian project.
Around 60,000 lives are lost every year from an ancient, deadly, but vaccine-preventable disease; rabies. This disease perseveres uncontrolled in the developing communities of Africa and Asia, particularly affecting young children. In 99% of cases, rabies is due to a dog bite. The cheapest, kindest and most effective way to stop this suffering is by undertaking massive dog vaccination and public awareness campaigns. Since launching, with the help of over 200 volunteers from all around the world, the UK-based charity, Mission Rabies, has vaccinated over 180,000 dogs and treated over 200,000 children in worldwide hotspots for the disease.
